inter[sessions]: Immigration Enforcement and the Theology of the Stranger
Mon, Mar 2 • 6:30-8:30 pm | Doors: 6:30 pm | Event start: 6:45PM
Exilic Church, 240 W 37th St floor 2, New York, NY 10018
Join us for an urgent conversation on immigration enforcement and the theology of immigration. We will explore how past and present U.S. immigration laws, and the current administration’s interpretations and policy decisions, shape today’s intensified actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Together, we’ll engage Scripture’s call to welcome, protect, and advocate for our immigrant neighbors while learning how enforcement practices impact families and communities across the country. Attendees will leave with practical next steps both to continue educating themselves on this topic and to take action.
PMA Book Club - Black History Month
This February, our PMA community is invited to embark on a powerful journey by reading Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, written by Frederick Douglass himself. The Book Club will be led by Dr. Rachel Atkins.
Born into slavery in 1818, Douglass provides a profound autobiographical account that stands as one of the most influential narratives in American history. It's more than just a historical record; it's a testament to the power of hope, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of freedom.
A Focus on Faith & Justice
As a community striving to follow Christ and pursue justice in our city, this book offers a unique opportunity for reflection. A central theme in Douglass's work is the piercing contrast between "true Christianity" and the distorted "slaveholding Christianity" of his era. We will explore:
What does "true Christianity" look like in the face of systemic injustice?
How can Douglass's prophetic voice guide our actions today?
